Unboxing My Spotify Wrapped 2018 Playlist

Me
7 MAY 2021

Let's just be real here - Spotify is the G.O.A.T., no question! I've been using Spotify for such a long time, and my family and I just got the family premium plan this year, which is one of the best things ever. One of my favorite qualities about Spotify is how it customizes playlists and recommendations constantly, and the Spotify Wrapped is no exception, so I thought it would be fun to walk through mine and what I listened to this year!

1. firsts - Ed Sheeran and Camila Cabello According to my 'Firsts' section for Spotify Wrapped, the first song I listened to this year was 'Happier' by Ed Sheeran, which makes sense, because I love him. Honestly though, I don't remember listening to Camila Cabello too much this year, if not hardly ever, but I'll trust them. 2. how many minutes I listened to this year - 32, 835 minutes After upgrading to Premium, I started listening to my Spotify tons more because I wasn't listening to anymore ads, which bumped up my music time. In 2017, I only listened to 18,415 minutes without Premium. Safe to say, I am very pleased with how much that went up in the last year. 3. top artist - 5 Seconds of Summer I spent 45 hours with them. Are we surprised? Absolutely not. 4. top artists and songs / the charts - My top artist was of course 5 Seconds of Summer, and following that second was Palaye Royale, third was The Maine, fourth was Waterparks, and honorably fifth place was Panic! at the Disco, my Top Artist from 2017. This obviously shows off my inner emo-teen, and also keeping in mind I saw The Maine, Waterparks and Palaye Royale on Warped Tour this past summer, so I listened to a lot of them in preparation for the day. My top songs give off a little bit of a different story. First song was '11:11' by Waterparks, 'Am I Pretty' by The Maine, 'Girl Crush - Recorded at Metropolis Studios, London' by Harry Styles, 'Carolina' also by Harry Styles, and 'Bad Behavior (Acoustic)' also by The Maine. Still lots of emo here, with a dash of pop by Harry Styles. 5. top 100 Now, I am definitely not going to listen all 100 songs on my Top 100 Playlist. If you're interested, you can check it out on my Spotify! It consists of my top 5 artists and a lot of my chillout playlist. What can I say? I like having some chill background music. 6. favorite subgenre - post-teen punk I honestly have no idea what this genre is, but apparently one million listeners also listen to 'post-teen punk'. The image that came up with this was 5 Seconds of Summer's debut album, so I'm guessing that's what post-teen punk is. 7. oldest song - 'Battle Hymn of the Republic' from 1959 by Mormon Tabernacle Choir This was a joke from one of my friends at school. Every once in awhile she would use my Spotify to play this song on our way to dance practice or her house after school. She's a weirdo but I love her. If I had to take a guess on my oldest song, I'd probably think it was something like Frank Sinatra's 'If Loveliness Were Music'. 8. in the stars - Aquarius According to the star signs I listen to (I'm a Taurus, fun fact), I listen to a lot of Aquarius artists, like Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles. This seems decently accurate, and I don't think going to research other artists' birthdays is completely necessary. 9. Tastebreakers This has a really interesting mix of music on it, to say the least. It's a playlist that has new music to try out, so I'll have to give it a listen and see how I feel about it. I actually like the fact that it isn't just one specific genre on the playlist and it really is a versatile playlist. Stay tuned for that review. 10. Overview As shown in my above picture, an overview of my year. My Top Artists, Top Songs and spending a large amount of minutes on pop music. 2019 will be off to a fun start for sure with all of the new and old music Spotify has for me to listen to!
